Nineteenth and twentieth century British social and cultural history, especially the invent of cultural diplomacy, the role of artists and intellectuals in national life and the impact of technology and the media on public discourse. I am currently also co-convenor of the Public and Popular History seminar.
For the last six years I have worked extensively with the British Film Institute on a series of highly-successful screenings, curatorial projects, and websites including Screenonline and the Colonial Film database.
